About Listening Post
Listening Post is a programme run by SHB Social Foundation. Listening Post is an emotional distress helpline available pan-India. We also offer Listening Post as a walk-in space in Pune.
Programme Details
- This is a pure non-advisory service run by trained volunteers.
- This service is being offered free to the community. You will, however, incur regular call charges based on your telecom operator’s service terms with you. You may however make a donation to us through our “Donate” page on the website.
- We will respond only to inbound calls on our helpline number (during call hours). We will not call back on any numbers shared with us via messages or our social media platforms.
- If the call is disconnected mid-session due to any reason, you can contact us again. We will not call you back.
Code of Conduct
- No abusive / foul language should be used with our Listening Post volunteers.
- Volunteers should not be addressed using non-professional terms.
- Please respect the volunteers’ boundaries of self-disclosure.
- No personal questions or demands of any nature to the volunteers, please.
- Please don’t misuse the helpline or hold it for a ‘friendly chat’. Someone needing help may actually be waiting to call.
Privacy Policy
- We will not share the details of the conversations with anyone including your family unless mandated by Law. Listening Post is a safe, non-judgmental, and confidential space.
- Audio recordings of calls are maintained for monitoring and evaluation purposes. They are not shared with anyone.

- We make reports of the calls received / walk-ins. These reports are not shared unless required by any law enforcing agency.
